About Timplado

Bringing a taste of home to Gothenburg

Timplado hosts bookable Filipino pop-up dinners in Gothenburg. Every course tells a story of heritage and memory, bringing a taste of the Philippines to your table.

Where it all began

Timplado was born from something many immigrants know well: homesickness.

When I moved to Gothenburg, I found myself searching for the flavors I had grown up with in the Philippines. The dishes that defined birthdays, family gatherings, Sunday lunches, and quiet evenings around the table were suddenly missing. While Gothenburg has an exciting and diverse food scene, I realized Filipino cuisine was still largely undiscovered here. That made me wonder: What if I could bring a piece of home here instead?

That question became Timplado.

More than a meal

My goal has never been simply to serve Filipino food. I want to introduce people to the Philippines through its cuisine and show that it deserves to stand alongside some of the world's most celebrated culinary traditions. Filipino food is often presented through buffets or casual dining concepts, but I wanted to create something different—something more intentional.

A tasting menu allows every dish to tell its own story while contributing to a larger one. Guests are encouraged to slow down, discover unfamiliar flavors, and experience Filipino cuisine course by course. It becomes more than dinner; it becomes a journey through culture, tradition, and memory.

Self-taught passion

I am not a professionally trained chef. Everything I have learned has come from years of cooking, experimenting, asking questions, and carrying with me the recipes and flavors that shaped my childhood. Every dish on my menu holds a memory. Some remind me of family celebrations, others of everyday meals that somehow became unforgettable simply because they were shared with the people I love.

Food as our love language

In Filipino culture, food is our love language. It is how we welcome people into our homes, celebrate milestones, comfort one another, and create moments that linger long after the plates have been cleared. Around our table, conversations lasted for hours, laughter was always plentiful, and there was always enough food for anyone who happened to walk through the door.

That spirit is what I hope people experience at Timplado.

An Evolving Concept

The concept continues to evolve because I am constantly learning. Every pop-up, every private dinner, and every conversation with guests teaches me something new. I listen carefully, refine each menu, and continue to grow. But at its heart, Timplado remains deeply personal. It is a bridge between where I come from and where I am today—a way of sharing my heritage while building a new home in Gothenburg.

The Meaning Behind the Name

People often ask why I chose the name Timplado.

I intentionally avoided something obvious or expected. In Filipino, timplado means "perfectly seasoned." To me, it represents the very essence of Filipino cooking: balance. Our cuisine is built on the careful interplay of sweet, sour, salty, umami, and heat. The flavors are bold, but never random. Every ingredient has a purpose, and every dish strives for harmony.

Timplado is more than a name. It is a philosophy. It reflects my belief that Filipino cuisine deserves to be presented with pride, precision, and respect.

A Dream for the Future

Looking ahead, I dream of opening my own restaurant in Gothenburg—a place where Filipino food can have a permanent home and where people can continue discovering the richness of our culinary heritage.

That dream is also deeply personal.

Growing up, I watched my father build restaurants of his own in the Philippines. I saw firsthand how food could bring people together, create community, and become part of people's lives and celebrations. In many ways, Timplado is my own continuation of that story. While I'm taking a different path in a different country, I hope to carry forward the same passion for hospitality that inspired me from an early age.

The Experience I Hope to Create

If someone leaves my table feeling as though they've travelled to the Philippines without ever leaving Gothenburg, then I've achieved exactly what I set out to do: bringing the flavors of my home to my new home, one plate at a time.
